Take your viewing of the holiday classic, A Christmas Story, to a whole new level with our Ralphie’s Oh, Fudge!
We combined the iconic movie line with peppermint and chocolate to create the ultimate movie night dessert – Peppermint Fudge!
Originally released in 1984, many of us grew up watching A Christmas Story and Ralphie, and now there is sequel coming to HBO Max this year!
Since it’s such a classic, we love the idea of hosting A Christmas Story party or movie night.
What did Ralphie say in Christmas story?
Our microwave Oh, Fudge! recipe comes form the iconic scene where Ralphie is helping his dad change a flat tire after visiting Santa Claus at the mall.
Ralphie spills the bolts and yells, “Oh, Fudge!”….only he didn’t say fudge! As punishment for using a curse word, Ralphie’s mom washes his mouth out with pink “Lifebuoy” soap.
We used that scene as our inspiration for this Christmas dessert recipe, and it turned out to be absolutely delicious!
What did Ralphie say about soap?
Over the years I got to be quite a connoisseur of soap. Though my personal preference was for Lux, I found that Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor – heavy, but with a touch of mellow smoothness. Lifebuoy, on the other hand… (Yechh!) — Ralphie
You may not know it, but Lifebuoy was a real brand that was banned in the United States. It’s considered harmful to the skin now!
Is there swearing in A Christmas Story?
While Ralphie is supposed to be saying the “F” word, the audience hears him say “Fudge” instead. That being said, his dad does swear in the movie.
Oh, Fudge! Ingredients
- 2 14-ounce cans sweetened condensed milk
- 2 10-ounce packages dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/3 cup crushed peppermint candy
How to Make A Christmas Story Fudge
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a large microwave safe bowl. Heat in the microwave on high for 3 minutes, watching carefully to make sure the milk doesn’t boil over.
- Add the chocolate chips and stir to combine. Return to the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds.
- Stir vigorously until the milk and chocolate are thoroughly combined.
- Pour into a parchment paper lined 8×8 pan and spread in an even layer.
- Top with crushed peppermint candy. Press the candy lightly into the fudge.
- Allow to sit at room temperature for at least 4 hours or in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to set, then cut into one-inch pieces.
How do you store fudge?
It’s best to store the Oh, Fudge! in an airtight container at room temperature.
We also recommend only cutting the amount you want to eat in a single sitting to keep it from drying out.
