We love doing Steven Spielberg movie nights! Our E.T Movie Night is full of Reese’s Pieces Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Bars are delicious and easy to make! Take your movie night to a whole new world with this dessert! (See what we did there? He’s an alien, haha).
We’re obviously not affiliates with Hersey or Universal, but we do love coming up with fun movie-themed recipes! This is just one of our favorite inspired recipes.
Why did they use Reese’s Pieces in ET?
Steven Spielberg knew E.T. was going to love candy, and that it was going to be a big part of the movie. So he approached Hershey to see if they would be interested in featuring a (then unpopular) candy in the movie. Hershey’s paid a whopping $1 million to feature Reese’s Pieces and saw a 65% jump in sales after the movie’s release! Thus, Reese’s Pieces made it into one of the classics of the 80s! (source)
Does ET eat Reese’s Pieces?
Yes! He absolutely loves them, and it’s how Elliot is about to get him to come home with him.

We love this recipe because it’s a no-bake dessert! All you need is your ingredients, a couple dishes, and a microwave! So even your kids can be involved!
What you’ll need:
- 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 c white cake mix
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup Reese’s peanut butter chips
- Yellow and orange sprinkles
- 1 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp Reese’s peanut butter chips
- 1 4oz box Reese’s Pieces
- Foil lined 2 quart glass baking dish
How to Make E.T Movie Night Reese’s Pieces Bars
Start by mixing the condensed milk with 1/2 cup of the white cake mix. Once mixed thoroughly, divide the mixture into 2 bowls.
In the first bowl, add the Reese’s peanut butter chips and microwave it for 1 minute. Then stir well. The chips need to melt as it’s being stirred into the mixture. (If they’re not melted within the 1 minute, you can microwave again for 20 seconds, but be careful not to overheat them).
Pour the peanut butter mixture evenly into a lined baking dish. You want it to cover the bottom of the dish evenly.
In the 2nd bowl, add in your chocolate chips and warm them in the microwave 1 minute and stir well.
Pour the chocolate mixture on top of the peanut butter in the lined dish evenly.
Immediately top with sprinkles, a tbsp of semi-sweet and peanut butter chips, and the box of Reese’s Pieces. (You can use your fingers to lightly press them into the bars)
Refrigerate for 2+ hours and then remove from the pan, cut into bars, and enjoy!
